Rants from the Dugout

League Opener

5/28/2004

Mother Nature finally agreed with the league schedule and the Barnstormer finally got a chance to play. Thursday night pitted Reebs Sports Bar against your warriors in stone grey, the Barnstormer. The Barnstormer was coming off a 2 and 2 split in the Old Chicago tournament, and Reebs is coming off two wins against our arch nemesis D+P Terminal. I personally hate Reebs and feel that they are not only lucky but also OVERRATED, but I am put at ease when anyone whips D+P's asses.

The atmosphere on Thursday night was tight to say the least. You could have stuck 14 chunks of coal up all of our asses and guess what, you would have 14 diamonds the size of the Hope Diamond to cash in on. We played like a team that didn't know what to do and where to do it. It wasn't the Barnstormer that we are used to over the years. We managed to jump out to an early 3-0 lead, only to piss it away and remain tied all the way into the sixth inning. This is typically when the wheels fall off, and by God, that is when it happened. We managed to let these hairlips plate four runs and never recovered. Good Guys - 6, Asswipes - 9.

The second game started out similar to the first, spotting these no talent bums six runs and playing catch up. There was one thing different, the atmosphere was way more relaxed and we were ready to have fun again. Despite giving them four runs, we managed to let them have it to the tune of ten runs in two innings. Stonegrey built an 11-6 lead and NEVER looked back. Final score: Good Guys - 14, Asswipes - 11.

Despite the fact that we were left with the foul taste of a split in our mouths, I was very pleased with our play. There were times where we looked like World Class talent, and other times when we looked like World Class idiots. But as the night moved along we gelled as a team. I'm not sure whom we play next week, but I do feel sorry for you. You are in line for an All-Star piss pounding.

I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the state of the league or the umpiring. First let me say that Steve Grandberg is a first class Fargo Slowpitch Representative. This guy makes an effort to show up almost every week and get to know the teams that play in his league. This guy is approachable and listens when you speak not just blow you off. I have the utmost respect for him and am glad that he is our go to guy for the Thursday night North league. Secondly, the umpiring. The umpire we were cursed with was, as usual, a step below having Ray Charles call our game. This guy did not have the slightest damn clue as to what 12 feet was. He was calling pitches that were well below 12 feet, illegal. He would have been better off flipping a coin after the pitch was thrown, than calling pitches himself. His calls on the bases sure as hell didn't save his ass either. He made sure that he stuck us with a dagger a few times. I can only recall one or two of his calls that were blatantly wrong, that went our way. Great, another year of getting bent over. What can we do, we are Stonegrey and they all want to get a piece of us. Like I always say, every guy wishes they could be one of us and every girl wishes they could nail one of us.

So stay tuned as the Stonegrey warrior take the field at Lindenwood next Thursday for another pair of league games. See you at the yard, Meat.
