Rants from the Dugout
About Frickin' Time!
07/10/2008
Well, we only had to wait a few weeks, but low and behold we finally got to play a week of league ball. This sure has been one crazy season, between the retarded scheluling by the league and Mother Nature beating us down, it seems as if we have barely played. Let me start this rant by giving credit to one of the boys from last games we played. For those of you who chose not to show up and watch our favorite boys in black, you missed out on a 55 run onslaught. It has been along time since we layed down a bitch slap like that but it was along time coming. In that 55 run barrage, Snake managed to hit for the cycle in back to back games. Not to overlook the rest of the team, pretty much everyone had at least 6 hits in both games. But that was then, Loaf and Jug was now!
For those of you who can remember, the Loaf and Jug is the team that appears as if they should be in an Old Pro league. And you can guess how they play, Nickel and Dime Shit! They managed to take one away from us last year so we really wanted to cream them to exact some revenge. In game 1, we would spot the Oldies 3 runs, because that is how we play best when we are behind. In the 3rd Snake and Donnie led the inning off with singles and would score on Andy's single to left center. Miffy would plate Andy with a clutch bloop to right to tie the score at 3. In the 4th we would put up 4 more on a flurry of singles and fielders choices. But in typical fashion, one poorly played single with two outs turned into 5 runs for them instead of a shut out inning. But as I mentioned, we play better when we are down. The 6th inning is when the wheels came off for the Loaf and Jug. Snake led the inning off with a homer to left center. Donnie would follow with a one hop double of the fence. Randy and Andy would follow with singles, and Tommy would bring them in with a single up the middle to make it a 10-8 lead. Donnie would double Snake in for an insurance run in the 7th, and Donnie C slammed the door to preserve the lead.
In game 2, we showed up to hit some more, and a pitchers duel turned out. Snake continued his hot hitting with a double to right and Andy would plate him with a double of his own. To end this inning a Hog Palace first occured. In the 10 year history of this team, we have never seen a strikeout from Sabe. He struck out swinging on back to back pitches to end the first. Wow! Didn't see that one coming. In the 3rd, Braden would start off the inning by showing off his DiMaggio like eye by milking a walk. Donnie C followed with a rocket single to put men on first and second. Snake would follow with a single to left center to score Braden. Donnie then singled to right center to score both Donnie C and Snake. Donnie would later score on a single by Andy. We would pile on one more run and then play some error free ball to hold on to a 5-3 victory.
I would have liked to score a few more runs, but all things considered, injuries and ET on vacation, I am happy with a sweep. The umpire was fairly consistent with the balls and strikes. Donnie C even managed to catch their clean up hitter looking for a K. But he showed some hesitation and indecision on the bases. First of all, I don't like Ump's that let a team dictate calls and rule interpretation. But he let these old farts bully him around until they pissed him off on a phantom tag by Andy that he called the runner out on. They actually wanted Andy to say that he didnt take him when the ump had already made the call. Then proceeded to bitch and complain after that for the rest of the night. Grow up Gentlemen, but not too much because if all of you did, some of you would be taking the dirt nap.
So now we are faced with yet another week off. Good God we are going to play well into September at this pace. I will be on vacation, but in two weeks we have a showdown with The Bison Turf. I hate missing it, but I need a vacation to recharge the batteries. So to my team, Good Luck, and don't let me hear that we didn't sweep those punks in green! See you in a few weeks at the Yard, Meat!
