Rants from the Dugout

What the F*ck Just Happened?

06/30/2007

It felt great to be back on the field last week. I had been gone for over three weeks and itching for the chance to get back at the grind. The weather was great, everyone was rested, and almost everyone was in attendance. What good possibly go wrong? We forgot how to hit over those past three weeks, that's what happened.
In game one we started out of the blocks quick with two runs early on back to back base hits by Donnie and Dammon. From there the defense would really play well, but the bats turned to sh&t. We were bled to death by weak ass bloops all night long. Donnie C gave up a grand slam that took the wind out of us. On that play, Chris was lost for the night when his foot was caught up in the fence and rolled. We would rally several times, but nothing would cross the plate. We left a small village on the base path in the first game. Beaten by a bunch of goddamn nerds! NERDS!! Upon further review, I think most of this team was well overweight and at least 40 years old. That is why it is such and incredible sh%t sandwich and I refuse to take a bite out of it. If it was me, I'd go out and redeem myself, in the eyes of my father, my maker and my coach. The troops were inspired to go in game 2.
Unfortunately, my inspirational speech only lasted one inning. we plated 2 early on an inside the parker by Donnie. After that the defense squeezed their grip and the bats let even more steam out of them. We were absolutely horrible at the plate and specifically with runners in scoring position. Overall, I think we turned 6 double plays up the middle, but left at least 15-20 runners on base. We had to string along these old farts for nine innings before we had to eliminate them Chris Benoit style. After the dust settled we clung to a 5-4 victory in 9 innings. Tommy was about the only one that stood out at the dish, going 5-6. But despite those base hits, I'll be damned if he crossed the plate once. And if anyone had an office pool on who would get thrown out of a game first, Blaine was almost tossed from the game for his on field antics. I got to side with the Snake on this one, the ump didn't have clue on how to call balls and strikes, and he was a fat piece of sh#t. But we have to hit despite losers like him behind the plate.
So we now are gonna take a 20 day rest period to regroup and regenerate the batteries. It is a huge game on the 19th against the Bison Turf Young Guns. Hopefully the time off will dial us back in to our past form. Enjoy the time off and I'll see you at McKinley on the 19th, Meat!
