The Last Victim
7/30/2004
After a long and grueling tournament in Red Willow, the Stonegrey Warriors were back to the business at hand, kicking the crap out of the last remaining victim on the schedule. The Barnstormer needs to win out the rest of the season to finish with a share of the League title. It was the league return of Barry off his house arrest and just simply blowing us off the week before. So the stage was set for the Smackdown.
The Stormer turned on the "D" early with a shutout inning in the first. In the bottom half, we opened up with four straight base knocks and hung up five on the board. From there the lead was well in hand. The first was highlighted by a King Kong shot over the left field fence by ET. The bats would take a nap in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings but would get energized in the 5th and 6th. In the fifth, Tommy and Shakey would lead off with singles; Nadia drew a walk after a fly out by Miffy. Barry would plate Tommy on a sacrifice to left. Snake followed with a single to right but would get caught with his head completely stuck up his ass on a double by Donnie. With the third baseman pretty much holding the ball, Snake found it in his infinite wisdom to try and score. He was tagged out after he tripped on his skirt and ended a rally. Snake remember, you were only the fourth fastest base runner in Red Willow, not the first. We followed with two more in the sixth and ended the game with a five run victory. Good Guys - 10 Howdy Doolittle's - 5.
The second game started with us scrounging together runs and somehow trying to stay even with these butt pirates. We managed to scatter several hits and put runs together here and there, but were unable to really knock these sumbitches out with one blow. That blow would happen in the fifth. Randy would lead off a rally that would see 6 out of 7 people single. After back to back walks by Sabe and Miffy, Mike, Barry, Snake and Donnie would all follow with base hits to make the final total 10 runs in the inning. From here we went 1-2-3 in the field and ended this one early in only five innings. Good Guys - 19 Howdy Doolittle's - 6.
It is hard to believe that the season has only one game left. It seems like only last week that we were shivering our asses off in the cold morning air at the Old Chicago Tournament. This season has had its highs, laying it on Snagglepuss, and it's lows, dropping games to Reeb's and Tailgators. I would say that it was a positive season and look forward to everyone coming back next year for league title number three. Next week is the finale at Lindenweed. The beatin's will begin at 6:30 sharp so don't be late. The victim is Doolittle's again, if there is anything left of them. See you at the yard, Meat!
